Garden & Gun Travel South

WHETHER IT’S A GIRLS’ ROAD TRIP, family-friendly weekend or sweethearts’ getaway, there are places in the South that beg to be discovered and explored. We asked some of our favorite bloggers, photographers and influencers to visit seven southern states and report back with their hotel highlights, food finds and best-loved adventures.

FIVE DAYS IN THE MOUNTAIN STATE WERE photographic inspiration for photographer Patrick Chin, who snapped away while zip-lining and whitewater rafting. After hiking Seneca Rocks, Chin and his wife sought comfort at Thomas’ charming Cooper House for a “Bed & Cocktail.”

MOBILE’S SUNSETS AND ORANGE BEACH’S CALM WAVES agreed with blogger and consultant Juley Le, who dug her feet in the sand and devoured fresh crab and fish tacos along the Gulf. In culturally rich Birmingham, history ruled. Highlands Bar and Grill provided a French spin on Southern fare for dinner.

FOR OLIVIA RAE JAMES AND HER SWEETHEART BLAKE, Louisiana meant embracing crawfish at every meal—whether at Pont Breaux’s in Breaux Bridge or the Carriage House at the Myrtles Plantation in St. Francisville. A swamp tour in Henderson brought them face to face with alligators, while Abita Brewery in Covington made for a tame (and tasty) afternoon.
